Trump's Inauguration Attracts Tech Leaders

Published January 16, 2025

On January 20, 2025, President-elect Donald Trump is set to be inaugurated as the next president of the United States. Alongside family and friends, numerous prominent technology executives are expected to attend this significant event.

The inauguration is a formal celebration that marks the transition of leadership in the country. Trump has reportedly raised around $200 million for this occasion, a sum significantly higher than what was raised during President Joe Biden's inauguration in 2021.

For many tech leaders, attending the inauguration symbolizes their influence and position within the new administration. Having a seat close to the president suggests not only support for his leadership but also the intent to have a direct line of communication with him.

Several key figures from the technology sector are anticipated to be present during this significant event:

Elon Musk, often referred to as the "First Buddy," is likely to be seen near Trump, reflecting their close relationship. Musk's recent establishment of a task force named the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) highlights his influence, as it aims to provide recommendations on reducing federal spending. Furthermore, he is set to have an office in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which allows him constant access to Trump.

For his part, Musk has spent time at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, offering advice and even livestreaming activities from the location.

Jeff Bezos, the chairman of Amazon and owner of Blue Origin, is also expected to be in attendance. His company has significantly contributed to the inauguration fund, donating $1 million and organizing streaming of the event on Amazon Video. Bezos has had a tumultuous relationship with Trump in the past, but he seems to be mending fences after dinner meetings and dialogue with the president-elect.

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta (formerly Facebook), is likely to be present as well. Meta has engaged closely with the incoming Trump administration, with structural changes that align more with conservative perspectives. Zuckerberg will also co-host a reception later that day.

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, is reported to join the gathering as well. Following Google's donation of $1 million to the inauguration fund, Pichai has expressed interest in collaborating on projects related to artificial intelligence with Trump’s administration.

Other tech leaders include Shou Zi Chew, CEO of TikTok, and Tim Cook, CEO of Apple. Cook's longstanding relationship with Trump is noteworthy, as he has successfully navigated potential conflicts throughout previous administrations.

With the presence of these influential executives at the inauguration, it is clear that they aim to secure a close relationship with the new administration, allowing for direct influence and communication with Trump.
