Published December 4, 2024

As of 1:24 PM IST on December 4, the Sensex reached 81,012.14, showing an increase of 166.39 points or 0.21 percent. The Nifty was slightly up at 24,470.35, gaining 13.20 points or 0.054 percent.

Despite starting off with some gains, the market exhibited volatility primarily due to declines across key sectors including auto, metal, and FMCG.

Sector Performance

The Nifty Auto index encountered a decline, falling by 1 percent. Major manufacturers such as Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Auto, and Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) contributed to this decrease. Furthermore, the Metal index fell by 0.8 percent, impacted by losses from key players like Tata Steel, JSW Steel, and Hindalco. Other sectors such as FMCG, Pharma, and Healthcare also reported slight declines.

Mid and Small-Cap Resilience

In spite of the volatility in major indices, mid and small-cap stocks displayed resilience by gaining 0.6 and 0.5 percent, respectively. This uptick reflects ongoing interest from retail and high-net-worth investors in quality investment choices.

Stocks to Watch

  • Wonderla Holidays saw a surge of 15 percent following the announcement of a Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP) launch.

  • Suzlon Energy experienced a 5 percent gain after securing a significant wind power project.

  • Honasa Consumer climbed by 9 percent following news of its CEO increasing his stake in the company.

Market Outlook
