Why Apple is Poised to be the First Company to Reach a $4 Trillion Market Cap

Published October 19, 2024

The competition to hit a $4 trillion market cap is heating up, with major players like Apple (AAPL), Nvidia (NVDA), and Microsoft (MSFT) becoming increasingly close to achieving this milestone. As per Dan Ives, managing director and senior equity analyst at Wedbush Securities, Apple is likely to be the first company to reach this incredible benchmark, followed closely by Nvidia and Microsoft.

Ives highlights that Apple's forthcoming “AI-driven supercycle,” which begins with the launch of the iPhone 16, is expected to kick off in the December quarter. He predicts that a significant portion of the global population—around 20%—will access AI through Apple devices, enhancing the company's market position. Ives anticipates that this year could set a record for iPhone sales, projecting units will exceed 240 million.

The outlook isn’t just optimistic; Ives indicates we might not see this landmark event until 2025. He notes that there are around 300 million iPhones that have not been updated in more than four years, presenting an extraordinary upgrade opportunity for Apple. This situation suggests that Apple could very well be the first company to comment at the $4 trillion mark, followed by Nvidia, under the leadership of Jensen Huang, and then Microsoft, around mid-2025.
