Nvidia's Continued Dominance Amid Rising AI Demand: The Challenge for Arista and Cisco
Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ: NVDA) has reported another outstanding quarter, exceeding expectations as the demand for AI infrastructure remains exceptionally strong.
The company's Blackwell chips have already generated $11 billion in revenue, providing a boost to several compute manufacturers such as Dell Technologies Inc (Dell.com), Super Micro Computer Inc, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co (HPE.com).
However, for major networking players like Arista Networks Inc (ANET) and Cisco Systems Inc (CSCO), the competition is heating up.

Blackwell's Impact on Nvidia's Strong Performance
JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee considers Nvidia's recent results a positive indicator for compute and optical stocks. The company experienced a remarkable 93% year-over-year growth in data center revenue, reaching $35.6 billion, with compute revenue soaring by an impressive 116%.
Blackwell has quickly become Nvidia's fastest-growing product, with significant adoption from major players such as Microsoft Corp (MSFT), Alphabet Inc (GOOGL), Amazon.com Inc (AMZN), and Oracle Corp (ORCL).
Moreover, Nvidia is already preparing for the next iteration, Blackwell Ultra, which is anticipated to launch in the latter part of the year. As the demand for AI model inferencing expands—particularly with technologies like OpenAI’s GPT-4o and Grok 3—the need for increased computing power continues to rise.
Networking Sector Faces Challenges but Shows Potential for Recovery
Despite Nvidia's successes, not every aspect of the business is perfect. The company observed a 9% decline in networking revenue as it shifts from NVLink 8 with InfiniBand to the new NVLink 72 with Spectrum-X. Nevertheless, Nvidia predicts a return to sequential growth in networking next quarter, propelled by deployments at key AI factories.
Industry leaders like Microsoft, Oracle, and CoreWeave are playing a critical role in boosting the adoption of Spectrum-X. Furthermore, Nvidia has established a partnership with Cisco, which is expected to enhance its reach in the enterprise sector.
Rising Pressure on Arista and Cisco
As Nvidia takes a stronger position in the AI landscape, both Arista and Cisco need to work hard to retain their market share. While demand for AI networking solutions is on the rise, Chatterjee has noted that more customers are gravitating toward Nvidia's Spectrum-X.
For traditional networking giants, the upcoming quarters could be pivotal.
